Visa Requirement for Indian Passport Holder Transiting at Singapore Changi Airport

by Rahim

I'm coming from Chennai to Singapore by AirIndia Express and will leave to Ho Chi Minh City on same same day (within 3 hours connecting time) by Lion Airlines. Both are budget airlines.

Do I need to pass through customs for arriving and departing? If so do I need to apply for a Singapore Visa from India. I am an Indian Citizen.

Need to clear customs at Singapore Airport & Visa Required
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Rahim
I suppose that your tickets for both flights are bought separately? Because from what I understand, the 2 budget airlines do not code-share, i.e. they do not have any agreement to share each other's planes on the Chennai-Singapore-Ho Chi Minh City route.

As such, you need to clear customs upon your arrival at Singapore Airport, collect your luggage, go to the Departure Hall and check-in for your onward flight to Ho Chi Minh.

(Both Air India Express and Lion Air use Singapore Airport's Terminal 1.)

Indian passport holders need a Social Visit Visa, at the minimum, to enter Singapore. You'll need one for your transit at Singapore Airport.

Please contact a Singapore Overseas Mission in India, and find out if you need to get a Singapore Visa in advance, or you could get it upon arrival at Singapore Airport.

(Visa requirements change regularly and they'll have the latest information on what you need to do.)

Here are the contacts of the Singapore Overseas Mission offices in India:

Visa Requirement for 12-hour Transit
by: Anonymous

I am an Indian living in the UAE and will be arriving at the Changi Airport by Singapore Airlines from Dubai and have a 12-hour transit.

Then I will procede to Christchurch New Zealand by the same airline, i.e. Singapore Airlines. I am accompanied by five children under 11 yrs and 3 adults. Will I need a visa if I intend to take my children around the city? Do the free tours require visa or entry permits into the city?

Visa Free Transit Facilities for Indian & PRC Nationals
by: Gabriel Tan

Singapore allows what is called the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) for Indian and PRC passport holders.

Indian and PRC nationals with all necessary travel documents, plus valid entry facilities into any of the following countries:

1. Australia
2. Canada
3. Japan
4. New Zealand
5. United Kingdom
6. United States of America
7. Germany
8. Switzerland

are granted a 96-hour VFTF for entry into Singapore upon arrival at Singapore Airport.

This information is shared to the extent I know is true. As I'm not the proper authority to advise you on this matter, you MUST verify your situation with the Singapore Embassy in the UAE.

All readers: please read this page about Singapore visa requirements and direct all further visa questions to the relevant authorities.

I'll proceed now to lock this thread. Please do not add any more posts here.
