Visa Needed for Indians Prior to Arrival at Singapore
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Abbineni

Indian passport holders require at least a Social Visit Visa to enter Singapore.

There are exceptions if you are going to or arriving from (a few) countries with special entry arrangements with Singapore. However, China is not one of them.

Hence you need to get your Singapore Social Visit Visa before arriving at Singapore Airport.

Visa requirements constantly change. Therefore, you should check the latest situation with a Singapore Overseas Mission in India. Here are Singapore Overseas Mission offices in India:

On Arrival Visa
by: Melroy

Hi i will be travelling Bangalore to Clark (Philippines) in july of 2009 via Singapore connecting flight.

I am using the same airline I want to know when i arrive in Singapore, will i need to get a visa to collect my baggage at the baggage area?

I don't want to go out of the airport. Do i have to have a valid visa before reaching Singapore or can i get an on-arrival visa?

Are you on transit? Or did you book 2 different flights?
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Melroy

some nationalities don't need a visa to enter Singapore at all.

Before I can answer your question, may I know:

1. What passport are you holding?

2. Did you book a flight from Bangalore to Manila, with only a transit stopover in Singapore?

Or did you book 2 different flights - i.e. Bangalore-Singapore on a separate ticket from Singapore-Manila?

If yours is just a transit at Singapore, your airline will likely put your luggage onto your connecting flight from Singapore to Manila. You don't even need to claim your luggage at Singapore Airport.

If you have booked 2 separate flights, you'll need to claim your luggage and check in again at Singapore Airport.

Hello Sir
with reference to your question I have a valid Indian passport.

I will book my ticket for Bangalore-Singapore-Clark(Philippines) from the same airline.

Mostly probably I'll be taking to separate flights So Sir do you think I will need to purchase a On Arrival Visa at Singapore to claim my baggage?

2 Possible Scenarios
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Melroy

your situation could be one of the following:

1. You have booked 2 different flights with Tiger Airways, Bangalore-Singapore and Singapore-Manila.

In this case, you'll need a Social Visit Visa - in advance! - for your stopover at Singapore Budget Terminal. This is because you'll need to clear customs and check in again at the Budget Terminal.

2. You bought a single full service airticket for Bangalore-Manila, but with a transit stopover at Singapore.

In most of such cases, the airline will arrange for your luggage to be transfered onto the connecting flight at Singapore Airport.

You don't need to clear customs nor collect your luggage at all at Singapore Airport.

For Scenario 2, it's best that you confirm directly with your airline that you don't need a visa to clear customs or collect your luggage at all.

Thank you Sir for giving me the information.

I come under the first scenario in which i will buy two different tickets from Bangalore-Singapore and Singapore-Clark(Philippines).

So you're saying I need to have a social visit visa that i have to have in advance. how do I get it? Do you know how much will it cost me? I have no intention of leaving Singapore airport and visiting Singapore, still will i need to purchase a Social Visit Visa?

How to Get a Singapore Visa in Bangalore
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Melroy

1. the Singapore Budget Terminal is built such that you need to clear customs upon arrival in order to get to the departure hall for your onward flight. So whatever the case, you'll need to clear customs.

Do you need a Singapore visa for this? Yes, for your circumstances. Because even if you get a valid visa for Manila, you still cannot get into Singapore.

2. In Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai, there are travel agents who are certified as 'Trusted Partners' by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). These agents are able to obtain the visa on your behalf online.

I recommend that you email, fax or call the Singapore Overseas Mission in Chennai - which is the one nearest to Bangalore - and ask them 2 things:

1. Is there an easier way for you to transit at Singapore?

2. Do they have contacts of Trusted Partners in Bangalore?

Get this list of 'Trusted Partners' from them. Next, contact one of these agents to apply for your Singapore Visa.

(See the Chennai SOM contact above.)

I don't know whether the Singapore ICA charges for a visa. Even if they do, I believe it'll be a nomimal sum. But the travel agent applying for your visa will almost definitely charge a fee.

British and South African Passport Holders Visiting Singapore
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi there

As of 27 Mar 09, the Singapore ICA website seems to suggest this:

British and South African passport holders don't need a visa to enter Singapore as tourists.

As visa requirements are constantly changing, please verify your travel requirements officially with the Singapore ICA - see the link below.

Please verify your visa requirement with Singapore ICA
by: Gabriel Tan

Dear all

(i) we are not the official spokespeople of the Singapore ICA,

(ii) and visa requirements change frequently,

we will now stop answering specific questions about Singapore visa requirements.

Please read this page about Singapore entry requirements. It explains whether you need a visa for Singapore and, if yes, how to get the visa.

This thread will now be locked. Please do not add any more questions here.
