Using Public Transport for Singapore Travel

Which form of public transport is best for DIY Singapore travel?

Hi Gabriel, good day. This coming Nov 13, 2010 (arrival) to Nov 16, 2010 (departure) my wife (30yrs old), son (5yrd old) and I (30yrs old) will be in Singapore. This will be our first time and already reviewed this particular ready-to-use itinerary to avoid duplicate post.

This link below seems to be for a family like us:

3-Day Singapore Tour for First-Timers

I would like to seek info/help from you:

1. I already booked and confirmed on a budget hotel (Hotel 81 Dickson, Little India.)

From Singapore Airport what and how is the cheapest way to commute to our hotel?

2. On our vacation date, are there any festivities or occasions of Singapore?

3. For those tourist areas recommended on that link above, how can we go those spots by public transport only? Appreciate if you could provide info on how to go those sites and if it's taxi/MRT for first timers.

Hi Nilmerk

Transport from Singapore Airport to Your Hotel

If it's your first trip to Singapore, I recommend that you just take the taxi from Singapore Airport to your hotel.

A taxi ride from Singapore Airport is inexpensive if you have 3-4 people in your group. It also saves you from a lot of hassles. Within an hour of touchdown, the last thing you want to do is map-reading and navigating with a young child in tow.

So just join the taxi queue outside the Arrival Hall.

Of course, there are other transport options to get you from Singapore Airport to a city hotel.

Festivities During Your Singapore Travel

Here is a schedule of festivals in Singapore.

Public Transport to Singapore Travel Spots

City Area Travel Spots:

Most Singapore travel spots within the city area may be reached using the MRT trains.

This usually involves a bit of walking, or using some additional transport. For example, to get to Universal Studios Singapore, you'll need to take the Sentosa Express (monorail) after exiting from the Harbourfront MRT Station.

Outlying Singapore Travel Spots:

Spend more time sight-seeing and less on commuting - for outlying travel spots in Singapore, take a taxi there and back.

For most outlying tourist attractions, a taxi will save you a lot of time:

1) Singapore Zoo & Night Safari

2) Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Science Centre & Snow City

3) East Coast Park

4) Pulau Ubin (Taxi to Changi Village + Bumboat to Island)

5) Anywhere that the MRT doesn't go!

Enjoy your first trip to Singapore. Then share with us your Singapore travel experience.
