by Yang Mei Hua
(Los Angeles, CA)

my indonesian passport is expiring on may 2010; however, i have a valid us green card.

i plan to visit singapore on january 23, and enroute to guangzhou china on january 25, and will be back to singapore again on february 12.

can i enter singapore? if i renew my passport they need 1 month to issue new passport and i have to celebrate chinese new year and attend 80 year old relative's birthday party at singapore on february 14 and 16. this is a big family reunion after 10 years.

i didnt realize it will take them ages to issue new passport.

thank you, mea

Update of Passport Recommended
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Mei Hua

The official stance of the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, I believe, is that a passport with at least 6 months' validity is required.

This is a common requirement for many countries. So you may face issues at the airport in China too.

If you cannot get a permanent new passport in time, I suggest that you try for a temporary extension for your trip to Singapore and China. But I'm not sure if the Indonesian Embassy allows that.

Alternatively, you might want to contact the Singapore Embassy in (or nearest to) your city and hear directly what they have to say.

Same Problem with Passport Validity
by: Anonymous

I have the same problem. I am scheduled to fly to Singapore on 12th Jan 2010 and my passport will expire in 5 months time. I just realized it 3 days before, and it was too late to extend.

So i called the Singapore embassy in Jakarta. The duty officer said it SHOULD be no problem as long as I have a return ticket and valid reason to enter Singapore (mine was health related), but 5 months left SHOULD be no problem.

Verify Your Passport Validity with Singapore ICA
by: Gabriel Tan

Dear everyone with short-validity passports

Please contact the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority directly to verify the validity of your passports.

No one else has the authority to assess whether you can enter Singapore with an expiring passport.

You'll waste your time here just getting comments from all of us who cannot ascertain your passport validity.

Thanks and have a great vacation in Singapore.
