Hotel for Early Arrival in Singapore

by Kelly

I arrive in Singapore at 6.30 in the morning and would like to know if there are any hotels that allow early check in without charging a full night's rate?

Options if You Arrive Early in Singapore
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Kelly

Presently, I'm unable to point you to specific hotels that allow early check-in without charge.

But allow me to share what I do know and offer a couple of suggestions:

1. Hotels in Singapore do not guarantee early check in for obvious reasons. But they generally do not turn you away if you turn up before check-in time. They would often offer 1 of 3 options:

a. offer to hold your luggage while you return later, OR

b. offer to hold your luggage while you use the facilities in the hotel, OR

c. check you in if your designated room is already available.

I suggest you narrow your hotel options to 2 or 3 and email them directly regarding your requirements and see what they say.

Meanwhile, I'll keep my antenna up and let you know if I find anything useful.

2. Alternatives to Early Check-in to Hotel

a. Use the Plaza Premium Lounge at the Airport to freshen up. For a fee very much less than a night's hotel, you may take a shower, enjoy free flow of drinks and snacks, read the papers, surf the Net, and even take a nap.

b. Book a 6-hour block at the Airport Transit Hotel - in which case, you clear customs only after you're done at the Hotel and claim your luggage thereafter. This costs more than the Plaza Premium Lounge but you still pay less than a night's stay at a 3-star city hotel.

Once you are rested, you could leave for your city hotel.

What if you are arriving at the Budget Terminal?
by: Shuba

Our Tiger Airways flight from India reaches at 7am. From what I could read on their website, the Budget Terminal does not have any lounge facilities like the bigger terminals. Is there any way we can catch a few hours of sleep without coughing up a full night's rate?

Resting at Airport Cafes or Cheap City Hotels
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Shuba

1) There used to be a passenger lounge in the public area of Terminal 3. However, it has since stopped operation.

2) You could rest at one of the many eateries/cafes in the main terminals. There are some nice soft seats at the Kopitiam Food Court (Level B2 & Terminal 3) - you might want to get a drink and snack, and rest there.

3) There are several cheap hotels in town that offer hourly rates. But these usually have a dubious reputation and I won't recommend them here.

You could consider taking the taxi to the Joo Chiat area, which is on eastern side of Singapore and relatively near the airport. Here you'll find a few nightly-rated budget hotels:

a) Fragrance Hotel Joo Chiat (Joo Chiat Road)

b) Hotel 81 Joo Chiat (Joo Chiat Road)

c) Hotel 81 Tristar (Onan Road)
