Hello, we are a family of four adults and we need advice on how to get from Changi Airport to our accommodation in Johor Bahru.

What options are there and how easy? Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Transport Options from Changi Airport to Johor Bahru
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Richard

Option 1:

Previously, I've recommended a Singapore-registered taxi which can take passengers from Singapore Airport to the Taxi Station in Johor Bahru. The feedback from the users was very positive.

Here are the details:

Taxi Registration No. SH 7664
(Singapore registration)

Driver on day shift: Daniel
(Handphone: +65 97558193)

Daniel has a co-driver who takes the 9pm-6am shift.

The 2 drivers share the same taxi, which has a license to enter Johor Bahru, but only as far as the Singapore-JB taxi station just across the Causeway. Both drivers are able to speak English.

I spoke to Daniel briefly and got his permission to post his contact details here. He said you could contact him directly. His recommendation:

1. He sends you from Changi Airport to the taxi station in JB. The trip will set you back S$60 for the whole taxi. Maximum of 4 adults in taxi as per Singapore transport law. This is the day-time rate as of 29 Dec 08.

2. If you let him know, he could arrange for a JB-registered taxi to take you to your accommodation from the taxi station in JB.

Option 2:

1. Take a taxi from Singapore Airport to Woodlands Bus Interchange in Singapore. This will cost you S$25-35, with the airport and other surcharges included.

2. Then, take Bus 950 from Woodlands Bus Interchange to Kota Raya Bus Station in JB. You'll need to alight at both the Singapore and JB customs to clear immigration.

3. Lastly, taxi from Kota Raya Bus Station to your accommodation.

Please note that the Malaysian customs building has just been shifted. The flow of traffic there is being reviewed and managed. So you should expect a bit of waiting at customs.

Have a great trip!

April 2011 Update

There's now a shuttle bus called Transtar Cross Border TS1. It plies between Singapore Airport and Kota Raya II Terminal in Johor Bahru.

This bus makes its round through every terminal at Changi, plus a few other strategic stops on its way to the Woodlands-JB checkpoints.

First bus departing Singapore Airport: 0650 hours.
Last bus departing Singapore Airport: 2350 hours.

Fare: $7 adult, $3.50 child.
(Departure times and fares are subject to change.)
