2-Day Singapore Tour for Senior Citizens

by Narayanan Kutty
(Perth, Australia)

We are planning to take a stopover tour in Singapore for two days while on our return from Perth Australia to Cochin India.

We are senior citizens, husband and wife travelling alone. We are arriving on 25th July 09 by 5.30pm and will leave Singapore by 3pm on 27th July 09.

Would you suggest the best holiday itinerary to see the wonders of the great nation, Singapore?

Suggested Singapore Tour Itinerary
by: Gabriel Tan

Dear Sir

I'm humbled that you call us a 'great nation'. Somebody told me that the whole of Singapore could fit into a lake in India!

I'll be writing something for 26-27 July 09 in a later post. But here's a suggestion for the first evening:

Day 1 Evening, 25 July 09

1. Dinner in or around hotel.

2. Taxi or MRT (Farrer Park Station) to Mustafa Centre, a 24-hour shopping centre.

Mustafa has a large collection of jewelry, electronics, clothes and fabrics.

3. If time permits:

Around 8pm-8.30pm on 25 July 09, fireworks will be launched in the Marina Bay area - as part of the National Day rehearsal.

To make it there on time, you'll probably need to have dinner only after the fireworks.

Singapore Tour Day 1 (26 July 09)
by: Gabriel Tan

Mr Narayanan Kutty

Here's a full day itinerary I've just written:

The 'Highlights of Singapore' Tour.

In creating this itinerary, I've considered the following:

1. to see the major sights in a short duration.

2. to have outdoor walking during early morning and evening.

3. to do less strenuous activities during the afternoon.

At the bottom of the linked page, there are also a couple of tips for senior citizens - how to reduce the amount of walking.

Please let me know if this seems good to you.

Singapore Tour Day 2 (27 July 09)
by: Gabriel Tan

You effectively have half a day only. So I recommend visiting one of the so-called ethnic quarters: Chinatown.

Early Morning

Sample the wide range of local food at Maxwell Road Food Centre.

Rest of Morning

1. Walking tour of religious buildings on South Bridge Road:

- Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum
- Sri Mariamman Temple
- Jamae Chulia Mosque

2. Browse the shops/activities on the side streets of Chinatown - Pagoda St, Temple St, Smith St, and Chinatown Complex.

All these sights are just across the road from Maxwell Road Food Centre, and are close to one another.

Alternatives to Chinatown

- Little India Singapore

- Malay-Arab Quarter Singapore

Have a good stopover tour of Singapore.

Adding a Sentosa Island Tour
by: narayanan kutty

Thanks for the kind guidance.

Kindly tell us how we can add a VISIT TO SENTOSA ISLAND, preferably 26th morning.

Moreover if we are going to stay at GOLDEN LANDMARK HOTEL, how can the whole plan be organised?

Thanking you.

Half Day Sentosa Tour Suggestion
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Mr Narayanan Kutty

If you plan on visiting Sentosa Island, you'll have to forgo the visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens and perhaps also the Duck Tour on your full day (26 July 09).

This is a suggested half-day Sentosa tour:

Transport to Sentosa Island:

Option 1: Taxi

Metered taxi from hotel directly in Sentosa Underwater World (about S$10 per taxi). Plus entrance fee per passenger of S$2.

Option 2: MRT + Sentosa Express Monorail

1. Take a 3-minute walk from your hotel to Bugis MRT Station.

2. Take the MRT from Bugis Station to City Hall Interchange.

3. Transfer onto the North-South Line (Red) to Harbourfront Station.

4. Leave Harbourfront Station through the Vivo City Exit.

5. Go to Level 3 of Vivo City (a shopping mall) and buy your $3 ticket to Sentosa.

(Ticket includes Sentosa Express Monorail return rides + entrance to Sentosa.)

6. Stop at Beach Sation Station in Sentosa and take the free Sentosa Bus (Blue Line) to Sentosa Underwater World.

2. Half Day Sentosa Tour Itinerary:

Sentosa Underwater World

Sentosa Bus (Red Line) to Palawan Beach.

Have a drink at one of the Palawan Beach eateries.

'Meet the Dolphins' Show at Dolphin Lagoon, which is by Palawan Beach.

12noon onwards:
Journey back to Suntec City for the Duck Tour if time permits. Otherwise, have high tea at Equinox Restaurant, followed by the rest of this One Day 'Highlights of Singapore' Tour.

Spend the entire day's tour of Sentosa Island.
