Watching Lion Dance Performances in Singapore

by Robert Matthews

A small party of six Australian tourists will be visiting Singapore from Fri 7th to Sun 9th Aug 2009.

Can you advise me where we can see a performance?

Many thanks,

Robert Matthews

Lion Dance Performances and Training Sessions
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Robert

there isn't a major lion dance display during your visit. The annual Singapore Lion Dance Championship will only take place during the evenings of 1-6 Sep 2009.

However, if you want to see it badly, you may contact the Singapore National Wushu Dragon & Lion Association. They may know of training sessions which co-incide with your visit:

If you are leaving on a late flight on 9 Aug, you may still catch the National Day celebrations from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

You can catch a glimpse of the marching contingents near the City Hall, as well as parachute jumps, a simulated terrorist repulsion display, and fireworks around the Marina Bay area.

Where can I get information on the performances during this period? I have some visitors in town and would love to have them experience the festive excitement and atmosphere here besides the shopping/bazaar.
