Visit Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in Limited Time?

Is it wise to visit both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on a limited amount of time?

Hi, we are planning to visit Singapore by January 2011. We will spent 2 days in Kuala Lumpur then we are thinking of visiting also Singapore from KL. Can you suggest the best thing we can do for fastest travel and cheaper fare? If we travel by bus, how much could be our fare and if not is there any option you could suggest? Please help us. Thank you.

Hi Karen

This is a regularly-asked question. Many people flying into Kuala Lumpur are often tempted to fit in an excursion to Singapore. The converse is also true for many who fly into Singapore.

The extension from one city to the other is only worthwhile if you have at least a week to sightsee. Anything less than that and you'll find yourself feeling very frustrated with the proportion of time used for bus/train/plane travel.

The return journey between KL and Singapore will take up at least 12 hours of your time, regardless of the form of transport you use. If you are going to spend 2 days in Kuala Lumpur and 2 days in Singapore, you'll find yourself spending more time on a bus, train or plane - than actually sightseeing.

There's a lot to see and do in Kuala Lumpur. You're not going to feel satisfied with (less than) 2 days there. Therefore, I recommend that you take it easy in Kuala Lumpur, and perhaps also visit its surrounds. Save Singapore for another trip.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works. I obviously have not answered your main question about transport. But I need to warn you: trying to visit both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on limited time is trying to do too much.

Kind regards.
