Transport to Singapore Zoo and City Tour

We will be coming into singapore on the over night train arriving at the station at 0830 and we fly out of budget terminal at 2030 that night.

Is there a good transport/tour group that might collect us from the old train station and take us to the zoo for the day and maybe even a short tour around the city also before going to the airport.

Or is it easy enough and affordable to get a taxi to fit in 6 people to get to these places. Where can we store our luggage safely.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Transport to Singapore Zoo from Tanjong Pagar Train Station + Luggage Storage

the Malaysia-Singapore train ends at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, along Keppel Road.

Considering your circumstances, I feel that you can see the attractions on your own. It's quite easy to move around Singapore. Booking a day tour for 6 will save you a lot of hassle, but it'll also cost a lot more than what I'm going to suggest below.

1. Storage for your luggage

There are no left luggage facility at the Railway Station. However, The Singapore Zoo has storage facilities for bags. These are coin-operated lockers - at $3 per locker. You'll find the locker room to the right of the ticketing booth at the entrance.

Each locker can hold up to a reasonably sized haversack. For bigger luggage, the zoo staff could stow them away behind their counter area.

If you don't have Singapore $1-coins to operate the locker, you could exchange for them when you arrive at the zoo. In any case, if you seek help from the Zoo staff, your concerns with luggage will be addressed.

2. Taxi to Singapore Zoo

Taxis in Singapore cruise on the roads. So if you walk out from the railway station, you can flag them along Keppel Road. You can always approach the railway station staff or the folks manning the eatery, and ask them where the best places are to flag the taxis.

Each taxi in Singapore is licensed to carry up to 4 passengers. So you'll need 2 taxis for your group of 6.

The taxi from Tanjong Pagar to Singapore Zoo is likely to set you back S$15-20. However, there's a peak hour surcharge of 35% on the metered fare before 0930 on a weekday. So your fare is likely to be about S$20-28 per taxi.

One way to beat this is to have your breakfast at the railway station's eatery and leave after 0930.

3. Singapore Zoo Highlights

I really love the zoo. Whatever you do, don't miss the Elephant @ Work and Play Show. See this page I did about the Singapore Zoo. And a few videos of the animals.

4. Back to City for a Short Walk

I'm not sure if you still have a lot of time after the zoo. It depends on how thrilled or bored you are there. But if you leave the zoo before 3pm, you might still squeeze in a little time for a city tour. But it'll be very very tight!

What would you like most to see in the city area?

If you ask the taxi to take you to City Hall MRT station, you could see a pretty historical part of Singapore - what is commonly called the Civic District, where the colonial rulers once held their office. Then catch the MRT train from City Hall Station back to the airport about 5.30-6pm. Or taxi.

Another possibility is Little India, a very authentic part of Singapore.
