Transport from Changi Airport to City for Six Persons

We are a group of 6 persons (age 3, 4, 40, 40, 50, 80) planning to visit Singapore next month. We are staying at Peninsula Excelsior Hotel. Is it practical to take the MRT from Changi Airport to City Hall station and walk to the Hotel?
Gabriel replies...
The walk from City Hall MRT Station to Excelsior takes about 5 minutes, on flat ground. So it is possible to take the MRT from Changi Airport to your hotel, provided each person is carrying only a small backpack or similar.
But I noted that you have 2 young children and an elderly person.
This might pose a problem if you arrive during peak hours (7am to 9.30am, 5pm to 8pm). The trains can be pretty crowded at these times. While Singaporeans are generally kind and may give up their seats when they see young children and the elderly, you cannot count on this happening all the time.
Otherwise, if I take the MRT alone, can a normal taxi from Changi take the other 3 adults plus 2 kids and some luggage?
Yes. A normal taxi can take 3 adults and 2 under-12 children. Plus the luggage.
What is the taxi fare charged?
The flag down fare is between $2.80 and $3.20 for the first km or less, depending on the model of taxi used. Thereafter it's $0.20 every 350m (averaged). There are also airport surcharge, peak hour surcharge and a few other road charges.
A trip from the airport to the city is likely to cost $15-25 per taxi.
You may want to consider hiring a 7-seater Maxi-Cab for $50 or a 7-seater MPV taxi for $16 + metered fare. This option allows your entire group to stay together during the journey. Approach the limousine counters at the airport.
Is there additional charge for luggage?
No. But bear in mind that the boot capacity is the same as a normal saloon car.
Can an adult accompany a young kid to board/alight the MRT?
Definitely.
Have a good trip to Singapore.
Appreciate your soonest reply.
