Transiting in Singapore with Firearms in Checked Baggage

I am travelling Melbourne Australia to London and transiting in Singapore. I will be travelling Qantas for the entire journey, but changing flight numbers in Singapore. I will have a firearm as part of my checked in baggage (NOT Carry on!!) as per airline guidelines.

The reason for my travel is to compete in a shooting competition in Europe.

I have heard of bad experiences at Singapore Airport even when the firearm is in the checked in baggage. Can you advise if there is any problem to transit Singapore with a firearm as checked in baggage as per the requirement of the airline?

Issues with Firearms in Transit

Hi there

I'm afraid I'm totally unfamiliar with your situation.

As far as the Singapore Customs is concerned, firearms come under their list of 'controlled items'. This Singapore Customs webpage about Controlled Goods specifies the Singapore Police Force as the 'Controlling Authority'.

In other words, the Singapore Police is the most relevant authority to help you take firearms through Singapore Airport hassle-free. You might want to follow up with the Singapore Police contact (in the linked page above) and clarify your situation.

My suspicion is that they'll ask to see documents that prove:

1. you are participating in a shooting competition,

2. you have permission from your originating airport to take firearms in your checked baggage, and

3. you have permission to take your firearms through your destination airport.

But you'll do better contacting the Singapore Police and verifying the best way to get through Singapore Airport.

Don't forget proof of ownership and rego, make sure the travel insurance will cover. Then you have to get out of U.K ARRRGH
