Transiting in Singapore with Duty Free Goods

by Leanne
(London UK)

I am flying from London to Australia and will be transiting for 2 hours in Singapore Airport. If I purchase perfumes in bottles over 100ml from London duty free shop, will I be able to board my ongoing flight from Singapore?

I know in Australia you cannot board after transiting with dutyfree purchased outside Australia.

Perfumes in Specially Sealed Bags OK
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Leanne

If the bottles of perfumes are bought outside the restricted area of London Airport, I doubt if they'll even make it to Singapore.

However, if the bottles of perfume are bought from shops within the restricted area of the airport, they'll normally be sealed in specially prepared bags. These will make it to Singapore and, as long as they remained untampered with, will be allowed onto your onward flight from Singapore.

This guideline also applies to other duty-free liquids such as alcoholic beverages - they need to be in specially sealed bags approved under aviation guidelines.

Do note that the other conditions for boarding a plane, such as appropriate baggage weight and dimensions, also have to be met.

As aviation rules change constantly, it's best you verify this with the airport stewards in London before proceeding with buying your perfume.

Taking duty free alcohol through Singapore
by: Sany

I purchased two 2 litre bottles of whiskey at Heathrow - they were in a sealed bag from the duty free shop. I flew via Frankfurt to Singapore on my reyurn to Australia. When boarding my flight at terminal 3, my two bottles were confiscated and put into a plastic container. I was told not, 'Not allowed.'

No signs and I was told at Heathrow as the bottles were in a sealed bag it would be OK to take to Australia.

I am very disappointed with the confiscation and my experience has left me angry and out of pocket.
