Singapore Transit Stay: Luggage, Customs and Visas

by Catherine

We arrive to Singapore Airport at 8am from London on flight QF32. We then have 12 hours in Singapore before catching our flight to Adelaide on QF82 at 10.30pm.

We will either be staying at the Transit Hotel or at the Crowne Plaza Hotel just outside the airport. Do we need to collect our luggage for this time or can it go directly to our next flight?

If we stay at the Crowne Plaza, do we need a visa to enter Singapore?

Hi Catherine

LUGGAGE AND CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

Whether you need to collect your checked-in luggage depends on your air ticket.

SINGLE TICKET TRANSIT FLIGHT

If yours is a 2-leg single-ticket flight with a transit stopover, your airline will normally transfer your luggage automatically onto your onward flight.

(Note: You need to verify this with your airline during check in.)

If you are staying at the Ambassador Transit Hotel Singapore, you need not clear immigration checks nor collect your checked-in luggage.

If you are staying at Crowne Plaza Hotel Changi Airport, you also need not collect your luggage. However, the hotel is outside the transit area. So you'll need to clear immigration checks, enter Singapore and - after your stay at the Crowne Plaza - go through immigration checks again for your departing flight.

2 SEPARATE, DIFFERENT TICKETS

If your arriving/departing flights are on 2 separate tickets, you'll need to clear immigration checks, collect your luggage and re-check in for your onward flight.

If you are staying at the Ambassador Transit Hotel Singapore, you go directly to the hotel first, clear immigration checks after your hotel stay, and collect your checked in luggage from Lost & Found counter.

If you are stay at Crowne Plaza Hotel Changi Airport, you'll need to clear immigration checks first, collect your luggage and thereafter proceed to the hotel.

SINGAPORE VISA NEEDED?

You did not mention which country issued your passport. In any case, follow the steps outlined here to verify your Singapore visa requirements.

Have a good transit in Singapore.
