Is a person in Singapore if he has not cleared customs and is still in the transit area?

Thank you.

Singapore's Law Applies in Airport's Transit Area
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Glenn

While in transit at Singapore Airport, a passenger is technically in Singapore even though immigration/customs prevents the passenger from getting to the other parts of Singapore.

Why is this fact important to transit passengers in Singapore?

Because Singapore's law applies even in the transit area of Changi Airport. What may have been allowed in the passenger's embarkation airport may not be allowed in the transit area of Singapore Airport.

For example, drug trafficking in Singapore carries the death penalty.

So what happens to a person who arrives at Singapore Airport, and stays in the transit area with drugs banned in Singapore?

He/She will definitely be in very serious trouble!
