2 Taxis Needed for Your Configuration
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Ronald

Yes, you'll need 2 taxis for 4 adults and a child, even though the child is very young.

Leaving the Airport

If you are leaving the airport during peak hours, you may want to approach the limousine counter instead and hire:

1) a 7-seater Maxi Cab for S$50, or

2) a 7-seater Space MPV taxi (SMRT Transit Taxi) for $16 + metered fare.

This might be cheaper than hiring 2 taxis, with the airport, ERP, CBD and peak hour surcharges thrown.

During other times, and assuming that you are staying in the city area, there's not much difference between hiring 2 taxis or a 6/7-seater one.

Moving around Singapore

For this, you may want to consider booking a large taxi from one of the following companies:

1) 7-seater Space MPV taxi

- From SMRT Transit Taxi
- Hotline: +65 6555 8888

2) 6-seater SilverLux Cab

- From Premier Taxi
- Hotline: +65 6363 6888

Phone booking does incur an additional $8 fee, which you pay to the driver at the end of the journey. But it allows your group to be together and might be slightly cheaper than going in 2 taxis.

Ask your hotel to help with the booking, near the time you need it because advanced booking of more than 30 minutes ahead will incur extra costs.

Note for Visitors:

If you are wondering why this discussion came about, it's because a normal taxi in Singapore is allowed to carry only 4 adult passengers (or other combinations of equivalent adults + children configurations).

Singapore Taxi

Any child below the age of 2yrs old is considered an infant or toddler and should not be counted as 1 person.

It applies to airlines, restaurants, theme parks and places of interest in Singapore

Regards.
