The Lantern Festival ("Mid-autumn Festival") falls on the 8th Lunar Month, which runs from 8 Sep 2010 to 7 Oct 2010.

Here's the schedule for Singapore Lantern Festival 2009...

  1. Lantern Festival Events in Chinatown

    • Lantern Festival Opening Ceremony

      • 7pm to 2am on Saturday, 19 Sep 09
      • Near Chinatown MRT Station (Garden Bridge, Eu Tong Sen St)
      • Fireworks to be launched not long after 7pm
      • Lion and Dragon Dance Performances
      • Lantern Street Parade

    • Street Light Up

      • 19 Sep 09 to 17 Oct 09
      • On Eu Tong Sen Street, New Bridge Road and Street Bazaar
      • 7pm to 12am from Sunday to Thursday
      • 7pm to 2am on Friday, Saturday and Public Holidays

    • Street Bazaar

      • In Pagoda Street, Terrenganu Street, Sago Street
      • 18 Sep 09 - 3 Oct 09
      • 11am to 11pm from Sunday to Thursday
      • 11am to 1am on Friday, Saturday and Public Holidays

    • Stage Shows

      • At Kreta Ayer Square (near Buddha Tooth Relic Temple)
      • 8pm to 10.30pm nightly from 19 Sep 09 to 3 Oct 09

    • Mass Lantern Procession

      • 7.30pm to 10pm on 3 Oct 09
      • Starting at open field near Outram MRT
      • Join in with your own lanterns
      • Also stilt walkers, lion dances, dragon dances
      • Ends at Central Mall with a stage performance and pyrotechnics

    • Nearest MRT Station: Chinatown

  2. Mark out these 2 dates during the Singapore Lantern Festival 2009:

    • The Opening Night (19 Sep 09)
      • The opening night's events usually involve fireworks, and noisy, noisy performances.

    • The 15th day of the 8th Lunar Month (3 Oct 09)
      • The Moon is at its largest and roundest.
      • This year, watch out for Mass Lantern Procession in Chinatown.

  3. There are also free guided walking tours for visitors of the Chinatown area during these festivities.

    They run from 18 Sep 09 to 11 Oct 09, except for 19 Sep 09 and 3 Oct 09. The tours start from the Chinatown Heritage Centre every half-hour from 4.30pm to 8pm. Registration is necessary.

  4. The festivities at Singapore River and Chinese Gardens - such as they do in previous years - will not be held in 2009.
