Most Cost-effective Transport to KL (IMHO)
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Sandy

1. Can I contact a company at the airport to hold my luggage for 2 weeks whilst I visit Malaysia?

There are left luggage counters at all the terminals of Changi Airport. They charge S$3-12 per piece per 24-hour slot, depending on the size and shape. So it's going to set you back a bit to leave your luggage there for 2 weeks.

Alternatively, if you are staying in a Singapore hotel after your Malaysian trip, ask if you could have your luggage sent there first. Porter Xpress at Changi Airport Terminal 3 (Tel: +65 62420002) can send your luggage to your hotel for a fee.

2. How far is the train station by taxi from the airport?

The taxi from the airport to the Singapore-Malaysia train station at Tanjong Pagar takes about 30 minutes in free-flowing traffic. It'll cost about S$15-25 depending on what time of the day you travel.

3. What's the cost of a train ticket from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur?

The fare starts from S$19 one way.

4. How long does it take to get to KL by train?

It was 7.5 hours the last time I took it, with stops at several towns along the way.

I find the train too slow for my liking. But the views are marginally better that the VIP buses, if that's what you are looking for. The Singapore-KL bus trip takes about 5.5 hours.

5. How far is the VIP bus service by taxi from the airport?

It also takes about 30 minutes and costs about S$15-25.

6. What's the cost of a VIP bus ticket to KL?

Anything from S$25 to S$60 one way. They are mostly comfortable and some of the buses even have a stewardess serving you a packed meal.

Why do they try so hard to please? The budget airlines now fly between Changi and KL LCCT at very low fares. You might want to try taking a budget flight. Air Asia and Jetstar are reliable, and have received the better reviews.

To keep it simple, take a taxi from the airport to Golden Mile Complex on Beach Road, where VIP buses leave very regularly for KL city centre.

Have a good trip.

Advance Booking Possible for Singapore-KL Bus
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Vann

If you plan on booking an entire bus, you may approach most travel companies to arrange that for you - many will even arrange pick up at a location specified by you.

If you plan on booking individual tickets, you may approach the bus companies located at Golden Mile Complex on Beach Road.

Comparing Flights, Buses, Trains from Singapore to KL
by: Allan

1) Can you please tell me which are the cheapest flight to KL from Singapore?

You could use a comparison tool for budget flights to/from Singapore.

2) Fare-wise, is there any big difference between bus trip and these flights?

As a rule of thumb, a budget air-ticket from Singapore to KL is likely to cost twice as much as a bus ticket.

During some seasons, and especially if you buy early, some discount budget airfares may cost only as much as bus tickets.

3) Do these flights depart from Changi Airport? And arrive in KL international airport?

All budget flights depart from Changi Airport. Air Asia, Jetstar and Lion Air use Terminal 1. Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific and Fireflyz use the Budget Terminal.

Most budget flights land at Kuala Lumpur's Low Cost Carrier Terminal (KL LCCT).

4) How far is KL CBD from the airport?

There is now an express train that zips you from the airport to KL Sentral station, and vice versa. Air Asia also has a shuttle bus that runs from the KL LCCT to the city centre.

5) Please give me advise which service (Bus or flight or train) is better in all aspect as I'm travelling with my family (wife and two kids).

Take the flight for comfort. Singapore-KL flights take approximately 3-4 hours if you include the time for city-airport-city transfers. The buses take about 5.5 to 6 hours. The train may take up to 7 hours.

Have a good trip.
