Singapore Airport Tax: Conditions for Exemption

Dear Sir/Madam,

There are no airport taxes for passengers staying less than 24 hours in Singapore.

My first ticket: Darwin-Singapore,arriving on 4 Nov.(Jetstar)

The 2nd ticket: Singapore-Bangkok, departing early the next morning. (Jetstar Asia)

How and where can I get my tax refunded (which are already included in the tickets that I paid for)?

Airport Tax is Payable Under Your Circumstances

Hi Bill

the exemption from airport tax at Singapore Airport only applies to passengers with full-service airlines who are technically making a 'transit stopover'.

A transit stopover is when the passenger:

1. is travelling on a single ticket, and

2. has no requirement to clear customs at Singapore Airport for the onward flight - i.e. her luggage is automatically transferred onto the departing plane for her.

As Jetstar is a budget airline, their flights to and from Singapore are not transit flights but are point-to-point flights.

In your case, you need to clear immigration and customs procedures at Singapore Airport and re-check in again for your onward flight to Bangkok.

In such circumstances, airport tax (technically called passenger service charge) is payable at Singapore Airport.

Similarly, you are liable to pay airport tax at Darwin Airport for your Darwin-Singapore flight.

This tax at Darwin Airport would be levied even if you were travelling with a full-service airline and making a less-than-24-hour transit stopover at Singapore Airport.
