It is also chock full of interesting
background information to Singapore's sights and
attractions, presented in a just-in-time fashion for each
recommendation they make.
At the end of the book, there is an excellent
section
with very interesting snippets written by travellers from a bygone era.
And these readings build up the sense of enchantment for your trip here.
What's not so
good:
Rough Guide Singapore has lots of good stuff. However, I found myself
having to
flip the book back and forth - because the guide is classified
according to categories like places, hotels, eating
and so on. Personally, I prefer a guide organised by geographical
zones. But it is really a personal preference.
Unlike Lonely Planet Singapore and Insight Guide Singapore, The Rough
Guide Singapore does not have tips for making those across-the-border
short trips.
My
recommendation:
Get Rough Guide Singapore if
- you are looking for cheap accommodation in Singapore.
- you like to-the-point background information for recommended travel spots.
The Others in 'My Top 5
Singapore Travel Guides'
No. 1 - Lonely Planet Singapore
for its comprehensive, spot-on and objective coverage of everything you
need for a great Singapore tour.
No. 2 - Insight
Guide Singapore
for its very substantial background information to each spot &
souvenir-quality pictures.
No. 4 - DK
Eyewitness Singapore Guide
for its numerous photos and see-through 3-D
drawings.
No. 5 - Fodor's Singapore
for
sticking out their necks to say which the best is in every
aspect of Singapore travel.
and a good companion to these - Singapore
Cityscoops.
