by Reader's Question
(Singapore)
| OK, I am wanting to buy a RC(remote controlled) plane that costs about 700+ ringit or Malaysian money. I'm not sure if i could bring that from Malaysia to Singapore. Please reply. |
Hi there
There are 2 issues here for any traveller taking telecommunication equipment into Singapore:
1) For Goods Exceeding S$300 in Value
Subject to additional conditions, travellers into Singapore are granted GST relief if the newly bought goods are worth S$300 or less.
If the value of the newly bought goods is more than S$300, you need to declare them and pay GST for the value over S$300.
2) Restrictions on Telecommunication Equipment
(including radio controlled toys)
The Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has a list of telecommunication devices that are prohibited in Singapore. Items on this list may not be brought into Singapore. You might want to consult this list before you buy your remote controlled plane.
For peace of mind, you should contact the IDA directly for advice.
