Can a foreigner exempted from visa requirement fly to Singapore and on the same day visit Johor and thereafter come back to Singapore the next day for return flight back?

Singapore and Johor Immigration Issues for Foreigners
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Wilfred

1. this visitor needs to ensure that he/she

a. either doesn't need a visa to enter Malaysia,
b. or has a visa to enter Malaysia.

2. If he/she doesn't need a visa to fly into Singapore, he/she also will not need a visa to enter Singapore from Johor.

Hi Gabriel,

Thank you for your kind reply.

U see, I had a vietnamese friend coming to singapore for a short 3-day visit.

This is her second time visit to Singapore since Oct 2008 and the basic requirements of round trip tickets & money are fulfilled. This round, she is keen to visit Johor Bahru.

My question is will there be any problems of her going to johor bahru after arriving at Singapore Budget terminal, probably stay a day or two at JB before re-enter Singapore for shopping and the return flight back to Vietnam.

I am a Singaporean and will be accompanying her throughout her stay in Singapore and Johor.

Regards

Wilfred

Vietnamese Tourists OK for Singapore and Malaysia without Visa
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Wilfred

1. From this Singapore immigration page,

I understand that Vietnamese tourists don't need a visa to enter Singapore (as you already know). So no problem for her entering Singapore in the first instance. And no problem for re-entry into Singapore by land after visiting Johor.

2. And from this Malaysia immigration page,

I also gather that Vietnamese tourists don't need a visa to enter Malaysia.

In other words, your Vietnamese friend could fly into Singapore, go over to Johor, come back to Singapore, then fly off again without a visa.

I don't see any issue of your friend doing the itinerary you described.

Ensure that your friend has at least 6 months' validity on her passport. Also, get ready the confirmed return air-ticket to Vietnam - immigration may ask to see it.

Please note that I'm not the official voice of the Singapore and Malaysia immigration authorities. I share whatever I know, from my experience and research. But the 2 links above are the official pages and I think you can take their word for it.

Have a good trip.

Singapore Visa Not Required for Malaysians on Holiday
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Ann

Holders of passports issued by ASEAN countries - with the exception of Myanmar - generally do not need a visa to enter Singapore as tourists.

Follow the steps here to ensure you have fulfilled Singapore entry requirements.

Vietnamese Denied Entry by Singapore Immigration
by: alan

Hi,

I would like to enquire on the reason that my Vietnamese friend wanted to enter Singapore for holiday purpose for 5 days and possesses a return ticket to Vietnam.

This was her 3rd time here, and she was not allowed to enter by the immigration officer.

Is there a procedure where I can help to bring her through?
