Pipe Tobacco at Singapore Airport

I am a bit unsure about the rules for tobacco at Singapore Airport. We will be stopping in Singapore for one night. Does my husband have to declare his opened packet of pipe tobacco that he is using that has been bought in Australia? This is not a duty free item as Australian tax etc has been paid.

Taxes and Duties Apply on Tobacco

Hi Shirley

If you are taking any type of tobacco into Singapore, you need to declare it at the red channel and pay the associated duty and tax.

This is regardless of:

a) whether the packaging has been opened or not, and

b) whether tax/duty have been paid in the country you came from.

If you find this a hassle, you might want to seek help from the customs officer.

I believe there's such a thing called a Customs Bond for transit passengers, whereby you leave dutiable goods such as liquor and tobacco with customs and collect them on your way out.

Charges apply per unit weight for safekeeping your stuff there.

thanks for the information he will take it through customs because he smokes a pipe but i no now that it has to be declared even though its a used packet that is what i was unsure of once again thanks for the info
