Overnight Transit in Singapore

Dear Sir
My family of 5 pax will be on transit in Singapore on the way to Brisbane. As my children have not been to Singapore, we would like check out Singapore upon our arrival and would be spending a night in Singapore to catch the morning flight to Brisbane.
I would like your advice on following:
a. As Malaysians, we do not need visa. Can we go out of the airport and travel about in Singapore? I am not sure on transit procedures. Do we have to go through customs and how do we get back to Terminal 3 for our departure?
b. Appreciate your advice for hotels nearby MRT. Is there any hotel+ transfer package for such travellers?
