Orchard Road Shopping Ideas

"Orchard Road Shopping. For designer labels,
quirky makeovers, or simply great books."

Orchard Road Christmas Light Up - Blue fairy lights.
The Orchard Road Christmas Light Up

It may not represent the Singapore experience entirely. But Orchard Road shopping is a must-do if you're a first-time visitor.

And even more so if you are visiting during the Great Singapore Sale or Christmas Light Up.

The famous brands are here. But don't under-estimate those niche-y local labels that hold their own against the Hugo Bosses and Pradas of this world. But just where do you begin on this 5-km mega-shopping belt? If you have no agenda, just head for any mall that catches your fancy. But here are a few suggestions for enjoying your Orchard Road shopping:

For Designer Labels

Ngee Ann City / Takashimaya (Nearest MRT: Orchard):
Armani Collezioni, Burberry, Chanel, Christian Dior, Calvin Klein Jeans, Fendi, Hermes, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton

The Paragon (Nearest MRT: Orchard, Somerset):
Ermenegildo Zegna, Escada, Givenchy, Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier, Polo Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo, YSL

Hilton Shopping Centre (Nearest MRT: Orchard):
Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Emanuel Ungaro, Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake, Paul Smith, Valentino

Hey, I've Better Use for My Money!

Perhaps you're not interested in branded goods? Perhaps you're looking for shops that are easier on your wallet? Then how about Far East Plaza (nearest MRT: Orchard) for its youthful blend of colours, styles and energy. Here is where Orchard Road shopping gets quite funky.

The shops here may not be as glitzy as others on Orchard Road, but they are unpretentious and allow you to practice your bargaining skills. You'll love Far East Plaza if you are looking for costume jewellery, teeny bopper accessories and ladies wear.

A few shops worth checking out are:

  1. 77th Street (streetwear fashion & accesories) #01-33-35
  2. Shibuya 109 (trendy ladies' wear with Tokyo-esque influence) #04-99
  3. Paper People (stationery as art) #03-81

You may also give your entire body a makeover at Far East Plaza:

  1. Colour your hair pink or turn it into a mop! It's Hairy (#04-100)
  2. Then get a full body tatoo - or get some parts pierced -next door at Primitive Art Piercing and Tattoo(#04-101).
  3. And finally add some psychedelic colours to your nails at Nails at Hues (#03-07).

Great Reads on Orchard Road

For a milder exertion, there are two mega-bookshops at:

  1. Books Kinokuniya (Ngee Ann City #03-10/15)
  2. Borders (Wheelock Place)

Both are easily reached from the Orchard MRT Station.
