Hi, I'm planning a short visit to Singapore for a 2-3 days holiday. Could you advise when the Orchard St Xmas lights will be turned on and any details on other activities would be most appreciated.

This Year's Christmas Light Up & Activities

the Orchard Road Christmas Light Up runs from 15 Nov 08 to 2 Jan 09. So the lights officially are turned on 15 Nov.

Expect the malls on Orchard Road and around Marina Bay to open till during this period. You'll also find lots of buskers on Orchard during this time, especially in the evening.

Look out for the Open-top Bus Tour of the Christmas Light Up area. Last year, the tourism board ran this tour for free when you show your passport upon arrival at Changi Airport. Check this out with the Visitors' Centre at the Arrival Hall.

However, the action gets more exciting from 19-25 Dec 08. This is when you'll find more of these:

1. caroling, mimes, magic shows, dramas

2. nightly parade of Christmas floats

3. caring and sharing by the Christian community, especially on Christmas Day, when guests (many of whom have underprivileged backgrounds) are hosted at the Grand Concert near the Bideford Road-Orchard Road junction. Event starts 3pm.
