Luggage Allowance on Flights To / From US and Canada

by Preet

Hi,
I'm going to India from Los Angeles on Singapore Airlines. My question is how many bags are allowed to take & how much they charge for an extra bag. I heard for international flights you are allowed to take 2 bags for 50 lbs.

Thanks.

Luggage Allowance and Restrictions on Flights from US/Canada
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Preet

Passengers on flights from/to the US and Canada must abide by the following baggage restrictions:

a. maximum of 2 pieces of check-in luggage

b. each piece no heavier than 23kg (50 lbs)

c. total of longest sides of both pieces no more than 273cm

d. the length of the longest side of either piece no more than 158cm

There's also a separate set of limits for the total weight of check-in luggage allowed:

First Class = 40kg
Business Class = 30kg
Economy Class = 20kg

If you exceed the allowance for your class of seat, you'll have to pay for the excess luggage, charged according to weight rather than number of bags.

These rules are applied seriously.
