Left Luggage for Transit Passengers at Changi Airport

by Leigh
(Auckland New Zealand)

Hi

I am travelling to Rome on SIA with Transit in Singapore.

On the way back from London I am stopping in Singapore for a few days.

I would like to leave a carry on bag in the transit area left luggage facility at Singapore Airport while in Europe ( it will be cold there) and collect it when I return.

I have read this only works if I am sure that I am flying back to the same terminal.

Questions:

How do I find out the departure/return terminals?

If the incomming plane lands at a different terminal Is it impossible to stay in the transit area and change terminals if necessary to get my baggage if I am terminating in Singapore on the way back ?

Thanks

SIA Flight Departures and Arrivals and How It Affects Your Left Luggage
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Leigh

Question: How do I find out the departure/return terminals?

The departure terminal for your connecting flight from Singapore to Rome should be written on your SIA flight itinerary/airticket.

If it's not...

As of 2 Dec 08, Changi Airport's official website says that all SIA flights from Singapore to any airport in Italy leaves from Singapore Airport Terminal 3.

However, it also mentions that the arrival terminal for flights from Rome to Singapore could not be ascertained until 2 hours before arrival time.

(I believe that the arrival terminal for Rome-Singapore is also not reflected on your SIA ticket. If it is, you'll know whether the departure and arrival terminals are the same.)

So far we know:

a. departure terminal for Rome: Terminal 3.

b. arrival terminal for inbound flight from Rome: only 2 hours before arrival.

Question: If the incoming plane lands at a different terminal Is it impossible to stay in the transit area and change terminals if necessary to get my baggage if I am terminating in Singapore on the way back?

I've verified the following with the Left Luggage Service at Singapore Airport (transit area):

a. All the transit areas of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at Singapore Airport are linked via a Skytrain. It is possible to move among the transit areas of all 3 terminals without clearing immigration/customs.

b. So it is possible to use the left luggage facility in the transit area of any terminal and return to it when you land at Singapore Airport again, as long as you arrive at one of the main terminals.

If you land at a different terminal, you should:

1. take the Skytrain in the transit area to the terminal where you've left your luggage,

2. collect your left luggage,

3. and then return to your arrival terminal, clear customs and collect your checked-in luggage.

(Please note that all these steps do not apply for the Budget Terminal, which is in a separate building.)

I hope that this helps. Have a safe and pleasant flight. And an even better stay in Rome and Singapore.
