Hello Gabriel! Is it safe to leave valuables in a locked Singapore hotel room? Were there reported cases of theft in locked hotel rooms? Please advise. Thank you!

Take the Usual Precautions Regardless
by: Gabriel Tan

Hi Rolando

Break-ins to hotel rooms and pilferage by hotel staff are rare in Singapore.

But do not assume that this cannot happen in Singapore. As you would do in any hotel in any country in the world, do the following:

1. Put valuables such as laptops and cameras in your room safe if it's available.

2. If a safe is not provided in the room, ask the reception if you could safe-keep your valuables with some sort of centralised hotel safe.

3. Put any new and attractive-looking shopping away in your bags, out of the sight of the housekeeping staff.

Hotel staff are bound by a code of conduct, but help them by not tempting them!
