Handling Cigarettes During Singapore Transit

by Brian
(London)

HI, I intend coming into Singapore, staying over for 4 nights, then doing a tour of Malaysia, then flying back to London from Changi Airport, my question is this:

Say I buy 1000, thats 5 cartons of cigarettes, can I leave them in left Luggage in the transit area, and collect them to bring them back to the UK, without actually going through Customs?

OR..........

I believe that if I declare them to the Customs on my arrival, that they will place them in a bonded store, and I wont have to pay duty,as I am not actually bringing them past customs and then I will pay approx SD$ 5.00 per week storage charge and will be allowed pick them up on my return to the UK.

Does any one know of this facility?

Hi Brian

I believe you may leave your cigarettes at the transit area's left luggage facility and collect them just before your flight out to the UK.

As the transit areas of all 3 main terminals are linked, you could leave it at any terminal and still access your cigarettes regardless of whether you use the same terminal for your arriving and departing flights.

I doubt the customs department will go through the hassle of safe-keeping the cigarettes for you. They are likely to refer you to the left luggage facility in the transit area.
