Ensuring Your Tourist GST Refund in Singapore
(Reader's Question)
| I had been to Singapore on the 27th of May 2010 and returned back to Mumbai on 2nd of June. I was told I would get the GST refund at the airport. But on arriving at the airport, I was told I had to take some receipts from the shops which I was unaware of. Is there any way I could claim for my refund? I have all the bills with me. |
Hi there
I'm afraid there's no way under those circumstances for you to claim your GST refund.
If you plan on getting a GST refund under the Tourist Refund Scheme, you need to:
1) buy from shops participating under the scheme
(These shops will usually display prominent signs at their shopfront to attract tourist customers.)
2) keep all relevant documents
(These include vendor-stamped refund vouchers, receipts, etc.)
3) and present these documents together with the goods at the GST Refund Inspection Counter, which is located at the Departure Hall of Singapore Airport.
