Directions from Johor Bahru Checkpoint to Pulai Desaru Beach Resort

Hi,

I am planning a trip with my family to Desaru for 3 days. We will be staying at the Pulai Desaru Beach Resort.

Can you please help me, by giving me direction from Johor Bahru Checkpoint to Pulai Desaru Beach Resort?

Do you also know of the distance between the resorts and the farms you have mentioned? Is it far? And do you know of any shopping at Desaru that is near our resort or farms?

How to Drive from JB Checkpoint to Desaru Beach

Hi Winnie

1. Just After Clearing Johor Bahru Customs

The most important part is to get the first turning correct.

After clearing the JB Customs, just follow the road until you hit a multi-lane highway (Jalan Lingkaran Dalam).

As you drive along this highway, look out for a Shell petrol kiosk on the left. When you see this petrol, you should keep left. Take the first exit lane after the petrol station. You'll come to a pretty huge cross junction. Get ready and turn right onto Jalan Tebrau (Tebrau Highway).

This is how it looks on the map:

There will be signboards along the way, assuring you that you are heading towards Kota Tinggi.

2. Tebrau Highway to Kota Tinggi

After travelling for about 35-37km on Tebrau Highway (Route 3), you'll see an exit into Kota Tinggi Town. Ignore this exit and continue to drive on for a few more kilometres. You should come to another junction.

A signboard says head straight to Mersing and turn right to Desaru. Turn right and enjoy this stretch, which has fewer cars and a little country feel to it.

3. Kota Tinggi to Desaru

Here you have 2 options:

Option 1:

Follow the middle section of my Johor Farm Tour Itinerary.

Visit Kota Tinggi Crocodile Farm, Desaru Fruit Farm and Desaru Ostrich Farm.

After visiting the ostrich farm and without back-tracking, follow the coastal Route 90 from Teluk Ramunia to Desaru Beach and then on to your resort.

Option 2:

Visit only the Crocodile Farm and Desaru Fruit Farm. Then drive on until you see the first turning to the Desaru resorts.

Head for your resort. Visit the Desaru Ostrich Farm and the seafood restaurants in Pengerang another day.

Can you also do me a favour? Update me with the latest entrance fees at these farms, so that I can put it up for everyone's benefit.

A Couple of Notes for Travellers to Desaru

1. I believe that there's another fireflies tour that is launched from near the Desaru resorts. Enquire and if this is so, you don't have to back-track to Kota Tinggi for the fireflies tour there.

2. The farms are all within reach from the Desaru resorts. So if you are on a self-drive and have more than a day, you can breathe a little easier and slow it down a bit.

Moreover, I've found the roads in the Desaru area much better than the trunk roads on the West Coast - I don't remember seeing any potholes in Desaru! So if you've got company in your car, the drive's quite a pleasure.

New Highway in Desaru

I understand the new highway will be ready in June 2011.

Currently the highway ends at the Masai and Kong Kong exit cos the bridge is still under construction. Understand the new highway will shorten the journey to desaru by at least 70 km. The Highway starts at JB and ends at Desaru.

Turning right will bring you to penggerang and left to Desaru fruit farm.

Driving up to Pulai Desaru
