Day Accomodation for 15 Hour Layover in Singapore

We are arriving at the Budget terminal at 2am in the morning and then not leaving until 6pm at night.

We are looking for some cheap accomodation that we can go to for a sleep and then stay until about 3pm (or at least leave out luggage). Most hotels want to charge for two days and as there are four of us it will become quite expensive.

Can you suggest something?

Affordable accommodation at Plaza Premium Lounge or Betel Box Backpackers

consider staying in one of the following:

1. Plaza Premium Lounge @ Singapore Airport Terminal 3 - Less Preferred

- napping compartments going at S$37.45 for a 3-hour block per person.

- 7 compartments in total, with 3 more convertible from the massage area.

- first-come-first-served; cannot be pre-booked.

- take the free shuttle bus from Singapore Budget Terminal to Terminal 2, then a short walk on the Skybridge to Terminal 3.

Feb 2010 Update:

Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal 3 has stopped operations. So this option is no longer available.

2. Betel Box Backpackers - Preferred

- Double room for S$60. 2 additional single beds may be added for $20 per bed. Your cost for 4 person in this room = $100. Else they have a combination of female and mixed dorms.

- This is a friendly place and if you ask them nicely, they'd probably let you linger around in their lounge past check-out time or stow your luggage away.

- Factor in taxi fare of about $20-25 per car including the airport and midnight surcharges. Up to 4 passengers allowed.

- If you are booking this, remember that you should be booking for the calendar day before your arrival in Singapore.

For example, if you are arriving at 2am on 15 Dec 08, you should be booking for a room for the night of 14 Dec 08. That is: arrive 14 Dec, depart 15 Dec. But let the hostel know you are arriving late.

Free rooms from Some Airlines:
Whose Policy?

A couple of years back, Singapore Airlines gave me a free room for our layover to Bali, also last year Asiana airlines gave free shuttle/room and meal voucher for my 8 hr. layover in Seoul.

I am trying to find out if this is an individual airline policy, or the airport's policy. Can anyone shed some fact on whether this is an airline or individual airport policy?

Whenever a free room is provided during transit, the bill is invariably paid by the airline you are flying with.

No airport in the world can afford to give its transit passengers a free hotel room.
