Bringing Duty Free Cigarettes Through Singapore
(Reader's Question)
| Could you please confirm that if I bring a carton of cigarettes from Perth into Singapore for four days, then onward to Siem Reap Cambodia, that I will need to pay tax on them? Also can you please confirm that I can buy cigarettes on arrival into Singapore BEFORE I go through customs. Thanks heaps. |
Hi there
Leaving Cigarettes in a Customs Bond
The Singapore Customs now has an arrangement called the Customs Bond:
You leave your cigarettes in a Customs Bond and collect them from the Singapore Customs Tourist Refund Counter on the way out.
The facility is located within the transit area of the main terminals at Changi Airport. A storage fee is payable - but it will cost much less than if you paid duty on your cigarettes.
Approach the customs officer for assistance.
If you are arriving at the Singapore Budget Terminal, you may also use the Customs Bond, providing you are also departing from the Budget Terminal.
Buying Duty Free Cigarettes at Singapore Airport
As far as I'm aware, the duty-free shops at Singapore Airport will only sell you cigarettes if you produce a boarding pass for your onward flight - while you're departing from Singapore.
