Is Lou Tian (Klang) now the best bak kut teh in Singapore?
by: Gabriel Tan

I finally gave Lou Tian (Klang) Bak Kut Teh a try today. And I must say that I'm truly impressed.

My friend Amos and I tried the following:

1. All Ribs Set (ribs and soup in a claypot for 2 persons + 2 bowls of flavoured rice)

2. A side dish of yu tiao

The total price of S$13 is slightly on the 'high' side. But after we gobbled up the stuff, we both agreed that Lou Tian (Klang) Bak Kut Teh is value for money.

Here's my take of this relatively new bak kut teh stall:

1. The Ribs and Soup:

As far as the quality of ribs is concerned, this stall must rank as the best of all the bak kut teh stalls I've tried in Singapore.

I was pleasantly surprised by how thick and succulent the meat was - this vendor has obviously put a premium on the quality of the ribs.

The soup has a herbal base. I like it because there's just a hint of the herbs, not an overbearing dose of herbs.

The claypot came to us steaming hot.

2. The Rice and Condiments

They give the rice a really nice touch: it was flavoured with shallots and garlic, and again the fragrance was just about right.

The condiment? Black soya sauce, cut red chilli and finely diced garlic.

Give them credit for the attention they give to the so-called sideshow (rice and sauce). Wash down the rice with the soup and enjoy this satisfying meal.

3. Opening Days and Hours:

- Tuesday to Sunday (Closed on Monday)
- Breakfast/Lunch: 9.30am to 2.30pm
- Dinner: 6.00pm till they run out of ribs.

The opening hours for dinner used to be fixed. Now they say they're 'open till the ribs run out'. This tells you something: they are getting popular. So drop by before the crowds flock here.

My overall rating: 4/5

Editor's note:

Yes, unfortunately this stall is no more. It's a pity because I really enjoyed their food.
