24-Hour Singapore Stopover Tour

I am an Indian and I am travelling to San Francisco, USA by Singapore Airlines this month, with a stopover in Singapore.

I have a transit time of around 25 hours.

1. Can I get visa on arrival at Changi Airport being a transit passenger?

2. Can I take an one-day Singapore tour?

3. Should I stay at a nearby hotel i.e. outside the airport? Or do I need to stay inside the airport?

Is there any good hotel room inside Singapore Airport? Can I make an online reservation of the room, preferably one inside the airport?

In short, suggest to me how I can fruitfully spend my transit period of 25 hours, including the overnight stay.

My flight departure time will be 0915 hrs.

Your advice will be appreciated.

Suggestions for 24-hour Singapore Stopover Tour

1. Visa on Arrival

To avoid misunderstanding, I've stopped publishing visa information online. However, I'll address your visa question in a separate answer to your email.

2. Singapore Airport Hotel or City Hotel?

In answering this question, I'm assuming that:

a. your check-in luggage is automatically transferred onto your connecting flight by SIA, and

b. you will only be taking a small day pack into the city.

Here are the hotel options for your Singapore stopover:

a. Airport Transit Hotel

This hotel is found inside the restricted transit area and is accessible only after you've entered the transit/departure area after your city tour.

It charges S$68.27 nett (single occupancy) for an initial 6-hour block. Thereafter, every additional hour is charged at S$15.30 nett.

The Airport Transit Hotel might be a good option if you are sure you'll return to the hotel only late in the evening at the end of your stopover tour.

b. Hotel in Downtown Singapore

Staying in a hotel in Singapore city has the following advantages:

i. you may return to the hotel to rest any time you want,

ii. you may leave your shopping at your hotel room and go out and sight-see again,

iii. you are close to lots of restaurants, cheap eateries and other attractions.

If you intend to stay in a hotel in the city, I recommend the following hotels, which are within 5-minutes' walk to the City Hall MRT Station:

i. Naumi Hotel Singapore
(an excellent boutique hotel)

ii. Victoria Hotel Singapore
(clean, centrally located budget-range hotel)

It's very easy to get from and back to Singapore Airport from these 2 hotels, via the MRT trains.

SIA also has tie-ups with other hotels, so you may want to check out their website for information.

3. 1-Day Singapore Stopover Tour Suggestions

a. SIA Hop-on Bus

Since you are flying with SIA, you may get a 1-Day Pass for the SIA Hop-on Bus at a discounted S$6 (S$12 for others). Enquire at the SIA Stopover Tour counter at the airport.

The SIA Hop-on Bus takes you to major attractions at Marina Bay, Chinatown, Little India, Clarke Quay, Orchard Road and Sentosa Island. You basically hop on at specified locations and hop off at your next desired destination.

b. Highlights of Singapore Tour
