(Singapore)
| Hi Gabriel, I need help to plan a 2-day Singapore tour for a friend visiting. In general, she would like to cover landmarks, such as the following: - Merlion - Stamford Raffles statue - Sri Mariamman Temple - Jamae Mosque - Raffles Hotel - The Arts House - Empress Place building or other pre-war Perenakan style houses - Dalhousie Obelisk - former Parliament House In addition, she would like to see Songs of the Sea musical fountain display at Sentosa. And the following foods: - chicken rice (Tian Tian at Chinatown or the shop at Novena MRT) - stingray (Marina Square Gluttons Bay) - Peranakan food (Vivocity) - crabs (No Signboard @ Vivocity or Esplanade) - Thai Express or Indonesian and nightspots such as Clarke Quay (most probably she will stay at Novotel nearby), Loof, Timbre@substation. Also do recommend a couple of places that will be good to take pictures of Singapore's skyline. Thanks! |
Hi Desiree
Here are my suggestions for a 2-day Singapore tour, taking in heritage sites, Sentosa and views of the Singapore city skyline:
DAY 1 - SINGAPORE RIVER & CLARKE QUAY
You could arrange your friend to take this walking tour of Singapore River. This will take about 2-3 hours and will cover these sights you mentioned:
- Merlion
- Raffles statue
- The Arts House
- Empress Place building or other pre-war Perenakan style houses
- Dalhousie Obelisk
- former Parliament House
Linger around till around the evening and head for Clifford Pier, Merlion Park, Esplanade Waterfront or the new Helix Bridge for photos of the skyline.
Have dinner with dinner at Gluttons Bay and round up the evening with a drink at Clarke Quay Singapore.
DAY 2 - RAFFLES HOTEL, CHINATOWN, SENTOSA ISLAND
Browse the museum and shops at Raffles Hotel. Then you could take your friend to The Long Bar at Raffles to try the Singapore Sling.
(Note: Some people feel that the Singapore Sling Boutique at Clarke Quay serves a better version of our national cocktail.)
In the afternoon, take the MRT to Chinatown Station and browse Pagoda Street, Temple Street, South Bridge Road - this should also take in the sights your friend wants to see: Sri Mariamman Temple and Jamae Mosque.
Have late lunch or early dinner at Maxwell Road Food Centre, where your friend could check out Tian Tian Chicken Rice.
Head for Sentosa Island. Songs of the Seas starts at 7.40pm and 8.40pm but early purchase of tickets is recommended.
Before then, your friend could check out one or two attractions at Sentosa, such as the Luge & Skyride, or the MegaZip.
This should fit most things in nicely.
Have a good time with your friend.
Gabriel Tan
