19 Hour Singapore Stopover: Things to Do

My husband and I will be arriving in Singapore at midnight and leaving on a flight to Manila at 5pm, we therefore have 19 hours in transit and are not sure what to do!

Would staying at the Transit Hotel at the aiport, clearing customs in the morning and then exploring the city be a good idea? Or would you recommend staying in transit and taking one or both of the free airport tours?

Alternatively we would really like to visit the zoo - do you think we would have time for this?

I think visiting the Singapore Zoo is a great idea. With 19 hours, you definitely have enough time. Have an early start. Leave the airport by taxi just before 8am and you'll be at the Zoo just as it opens.

How long you stay there depends on how fascinated you are with the animals. But leave for the airport no later than 3pm, assuming that your onward boarding passes are already in order.

So here goes:

1am-7am:
Stay at Transit Hotel

7am-8am:
Breakfast at one of the airport's many eateries.

(I recommend Kopitiam Foodcourt at Basement 2/Terminal 3.)

8am-8.30am:
Taxi to Singapore Zoo

9am-2pm:
Enjoy the Zoo, including their top-class animal shows.

2pm onwards:
Return to airport.

If you finish with the Zoo earlier, you could simply get back to the airport and take it easy at one of the airport's roof-top gardens, watch a free movie, or even have a dip at the Transit Hotel's pool.

Notes:

1. The Transit Hotel charges for use of their pool. But guests use it for free. When you check in at midnight, tell them that you'd like to use their pool the next day and request that they waive the fee.

2. The Transit Hotel can become busy at certain times of the day/week. You should book your room in advance.

Taxi Fare from Airport to Zoo:

Airport Surcharge = S$5
*Fare = $20 (estimated)
Total = $25 (estimated)

*The fare to the Zoo includes a peak hour surcharge which is 35% of metered fare. If you are visiting on a Saturday or Sunday, there's no peak hour surcharge in the morning.

Taxi Fare from Zoo to Airport:
$15 (estimated, no surcharges involved)

10 Hrs Stopover to singapore

Hi,

Please advice regarding how to spend my ten hours stopover at Singapore. I book my ticket for 6 Nov.2009. My departure time at Dubai 18:45; 06:00 SIN Nov 07 then SIN 17:00 to MNL 20:30.

Do I need to apply visa in advance here at UAE. I'm a Filipino passport holder. Having residence visa of UAE.
