1 Day Local Tour from a Desaru Hotel
(Reader's Question)
| I am planning to stay over at Desaru and visit the places you have mentioned on this Johor Farm Tour. However I am worried about driving around trying to find the places as there are olds and youngs in my group. Is it easy to drive around on my own? Or can I arrange transport to pick me up at Desaru Hotel for the 1 day tour? How much will that cost for 14 of us? |
Hi there
Desaru Roads Are Excellent!
The roads in the Desaru-Kota Tinggi area are good, well-paved country roads. There's not a lot of traffic, quite unlike Johor Bahru city centre. Where the farms are, the roads are also quite straightforward and - in my opinion - without complicated turns.
(Please be aware I've not been paid by the Johor Tourism Board to say this! These are really good roads.)
The Desaru Fruit Farm and Desaru Ostrich Farm are both visible from the main roads.
As for the Kota Tinggi Crocodile Farm, there's a good signage at the T-junction on the main road. But you need to drive on a paved plantation road for about another 10-15 minutes before you reach farm.
I don't recommend that you drive to the Kota Tinggi Fireflies tour. After visiting the farms, drive back to your hotel before it gets dark. Then, have your hotel arrange for a similar fireflies tour, which is conducted in another area nearer the Desaru resorts.
A couple of readers have fed back to me that they were able to get to the farms just by printing out my Johor farm tour itinerary and following the instructions. But I recommend you buy the WEM Johor Map from Popular Bookstore in Singapore, and use it to give you added confidence.
Managing a Large Group
It'll be more straightforward if you are a small group travelling in a single car. With 14 people, it's still possible. However, you'll need a bit more coordination: form an entourage and make sure every car is able to contact the others.
Call up your hotel in Desaru and ask if they could arrange a single mini-bus for you. It might work out cheaper and give you less hassle.
Enjoy your trip to Desaru.
